What is meant by faith? How many pillars of faith are there?

Faith means belief or belief. According to the terminology, faith is something that is believed in the heart, spoken orally and manifested in an action. There are 6 pillars of faith.

The first pillar of faith is faith in Allah. This pillar of faith is the foundation of the other pillars of faith. Faith in God means believing in the heart that God exists, expressed in speech and carried out by practicing the commands and avoiding all the prohibitions.

So how do we recognize the existence of Allah swt? Allah swt can be recognized by his creatures through the verses of kauniyah (a sign of Allah's majesty in the universe or all of his creatures). And the syar'iyah/qauliyah verses (a sign of God's majesty in the shari'a/holy book).

A) KNOW GOD THROUGH THE UNIVERSE

Who created the universe? We believe that Allah swt is Al-Khaliq (the Creator). God created and cares for everything that exists in this life. Allah says in Surah Al-Fatihah Verse 2

Praise be to Allah, Lord of the universe.

Take a look at the sunrise in the morning! See also the natural scenery around you. There are mountains, towering trees, a sea full of fish. Also the sound of birds chirping from the trees around the rice fields. They are all God's creation.

The beauty of the universe and its contents show the omnipotence of God. The universe is very orderly. Between one planet to another planet does not collide. The whole universe moves in one order. How could the world and the universe move in such an orderly manner if no one created and governed it.

The explanation above is proof that Allah is the Lord of us all. He owns everything. Allah has governed the entire universe. No power can block his will.

B) KNOWING GOD THROUGH THE QURAN

The second way that we can get to know Allah other than through the universe is through the verses of the Qur'an. These verses touch various aspects that can show us to know and believe more in Allah swt. Allah says in Surah Al-An'am verse 2:

"The one who has such qualities is Allah, your Lord, there is no god but him. The Creator of all things, so worship him, and he is the preserver of all things."

In the verse it is explained that there is no god but him (Allah), this sentence is the creed of monotheism. The creed of monotheism is our testimony that there is no god but Allah. Therefore, we must always have faith in him. So that we always get a high degree in the sight of Allah, forgiveness and sustenance. As explained in Surah Al-Anfal verse 2-4

"Indeed those who believe are those who when the name of Allah trembles their hearts, and when the verses are recited their faith increases (because of it), and only in God they put their trust. (2) (namely) those who establish pray and spend part of the sustenance we have given them. (3). Those are the true believers. They will get several degrees of elevation with their Lord and forgiveness and noble sustenance (4) "

In addition to mentioning some of the advantages that a believer gets, the verse also describes the characteristics of a believer, including:

When the name of Allah is called, his heart trembles

- If the verses are read, the faith will increase

- put your trust in Allah

- The person who establishes the prayer

- Spend some of the sustenance to those in need.

C) KNOW GOD THROUGH ASMAUL HUSNA

1). Al-Basir

Al-basir means Allah is all-seeing. Allah sees all things even though they are soft and small. Allah sees everything in the heavens and on the earth and even in the entire universe.

Believing in the existence of Al-Basir can be done by looking at everything that was created by Allah swt. Including events that occur in nature. Such as natural disasters that often occur: floods, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and earthquakes.

After we know that Allah has the nature of Al-Basir, then we should imitate the nature of Al-Basir by using our eyes to see good things.

2) Al-Adl

Al-adl means Most Just. Al-Adl comes from the word adala which means straight and equal. Allah's justice is absolute, not influenced by anything and by anyone. The justice of Allah SWT is also based on the knowledge of Allah SWT, the Most Expansive, so it is impossible for the decision to be wrong. Allah SWT is the creator of all beauty and evil, good and evil. Allah SWT is fair to His creation, in this case there is a secret that is difficult to understand.

a just person is a person who walks straight and his attitude is always

use the same size, not double size. A just person will do something appropriate, not arbitrary and try to decide cases fairly according to applicable law, not taking sides with anyone in deciding a case to justify what is right and what is wrong.

3) Al Azim

Al azim means Allah is the Greatest. Allah is the Supreme Being. Allah does not need other people. God can meet his own needs. Allah created the entire universe and all that is in it. God also provides sustenance, favors, bestows prosperity and gives us such great grace. Those are the marks of his majesty, none can exceed his majesty.

Wallahu A'lam
